Soph X MakeUp Revolution review

By on September 21, 2017

Hey guys!! So it’s been a long while since I last posted on my blog (sorry!), but I am back with a review on one of my current favourite palettes! If any of you are unaware of who ‘Soph Does Nails’ is, she is a beauty YouTuber with over 400,000+ subscribers and growing. I watch her videos quite frequently, so when I found out that she was binging out her own palettes in collaboration with MakeUp Revolution (aka one of my favourite brands, ever), I had to get my hands on them.

Initially, she has released an eyeshadow palette as well as a highlighter one, and oh man, they are pigmented. Firstly, let’s look at the eye-shadow palette and the range of colours that are included. One thing that I love most about this palette is that the colours cater for everyone, regardless of your skin type and there’s a mix of light whites, dark brows, reds, oranges, shimmer shades, and she even threw in a dark black shade! It goes without saying how diverse this palette is, which enables you to play around with the colours in lots of different ways; and doesn’t limit you to just one or two colours.

When it comes to the matte eyeshadow shades, they are pigmented, easy to blend and all work together nicely to achieve the perfect look. I found that with the shimmer shades, they were extremely shimmery / glossy and you don’t even need to wet your brush to pick up on the pigmented. One of my favourite shimmer shades is the green in the middle of the palette which you can see in the picture below. As well as being pretty to look at, it is also perfect for the Christmas season! There is also a gorgeous silver shimmer shade named, ‘Fairy Lights’ which works wonders as a inner corner / brow-bone highlight…. trust me on this one.

Now onto the highlighter palette. I have always been a fan of Make-Up Revolution’s highlighters for the simple reason that they are pigmented, blinding, and above all affordable. You get quality for a low price- is there anything better?! When it comes to the quality that I love, this palette was no different. What I love most about Soph’s collaboration palette is how the highlighter palette is also so diverse which means that there is a shade for pretty much any skin type. There’s the blinding white highlighter, a mix of blues and pinks, golden shades. If there’s one highlighter shade that doesn’t suit you, odds are that you’ll find another that does suit your skin shade.

Personally, I loved the blue / purple highlighter on the bottom row, and the silver one which is first in the pan. Normally I struggle with finding a good highlighter, and oh boy did this make me glow and above all…. it lasted on my face all day. Like with the shimmer shades in the eyeshadow palette, you don’t need to wet your brush in order to pick up pigment, but it does help. I used my Make Up Revolution setting spray to wet my brush and then apply my highlight and it worked wonders. We all love a good highlight, right?!

The eyeshadow palette retails at £10 for 24 shades and can be purchased from the Tam Beauty website hereor from Superdrug hereThe highlighter palette retails at £8 for 8 highlighters and can be purchased from the Tam Beauty website hereor from Superdrug here

Have you tried the new Soph X MakeUp Revolution collab yet, and if so, what are your thoughts? Make sure to leave them in the comment box below!

Love and happiness always,

What’s WRONG with the ABH ‘Subculture’ palette?

By on August 2, 2017

Anastasia Beverly Hills are back with a sister palette to the much loved ‘Modern Renaissance’ palette, and it seems like the whole beauty world (and world in general), have been going crazy over this new release.

With this palette only launching last Tuesday on the ABH official website, I knew that I had to add it to my collection as the MR palette is one of my holy grails of all holy grails. The palette features 14 shades, most of which are new eyeshadows, and feature a range of colours from pinks and reds, to dark blues and vibrant shimmers.

However, I am going to start by saying that this palette is not worth the money at all… and here’s why.

Firstly, I found some of the shades to be difficult to blend- especially the shades, ‘Untamed’ and ‘Axis.’ Disappointingly, these were the two shades that I was most excited to try out as I don’t normally go for any other eyeshadow colour other than reds and oranges (are you with me?!)

Next, I found that some of the shadows *cough* New Wave *cough*  had a lot of fallout. Normally, I’m not that fussed with fallout as there’s no such thing as a perfect eyeshadow. Fallout = high pigment as you will see in the Modern Renaissance palette. However, there’s a difference between a bit of harmless fallout, and half the eyeshadow colour spiting at me. On the other hand, I would like to point out that ‘New Wave’ is easier to blend than ‘Untamed’ ‘Axis’ so not all the matte shades in this palette are a battle to blend with.

And now onto the shimmers. If you’ve followed my blog or YouTube over the past few months, you may be aware that ABH shimmers are my favourite shimmer eyeshadows ever. They give any look such a glamorous pop, and most of the time don’t even need a bit of help with water (even though that does make it even more pigmented than they already are).

I first gave ‘Cube’ a go, and man it confused me. I totally forgot that it was a duo-chrome eyeshadow so I dipped into my white shimmer as you do to end up with a pink eyelid. But that isn’t all bad, in fact, I love that aspect of it. Next up was the one eyeshadow I was itching to use the whole tutorial, ‘Electric.’ From what I’ve heard and seen from this palette, this green toned shimmer really adds a major pop… and it’s green?! So I gave it a try. And it was definitely worth the wait. Even though I didn’t get to try out ‘Adorn,’ I would say that the shimmer shades were highly pigmented, and did not let me down.

Overall, do I regret purchasing this palette? No, as it’s so different to anything I currently own. But do I think it’s worth the money? Definitely not. I am a massive fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills, and will always back their products, but this palette was a let down for me. Compared to how well the Modern Renaissance was formulated, and how well it blended, this is on such a lower level to me. I don’t know what has gone on with this palette, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected.

Do you own the new ‘Subculture’ palette, and if so, what are your thoughts? Leave your opinions in the comment section below!

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

Morphe 25A: Copper Spice review

By on June 17, 2017

I never thought I would ever write a review on this beaut of a palette… but Beauty Bay FINALLY started stocking it and I knew I just had to have one of my own. If you aren’t familiar with Morphe in general, they do incredibly pigmented eyeshadow palettes (one of their most raved about being the ‘Morphe 35O’) for an incredible price. You get my drift…

However, after purchasing the Morphe 35O palette a few months back, I was eager to add to my collection and find the right palette which would do just that. The ’25A Copper Spice’ eyeshadow palette is limited edition (which makes it even more of a gem!) and features all the ‘copper’ colours you would need for the most loved warm toned eye look.

The palette features 25 colours which consists of 16 matte and 9 shimmer. As mentioned earlier, the palette is warm toned so it features a lot of red / brown colours as well as an incredibly pigmented black to add some depth into your outer corner. Not only that, but the shimmer colours are bright and ‘poppy’ so adding some glam to your eye look isn’t a problem.

The first row of the palette also features some pale toned colours which are great as transition shades, and add diversity into the overall collection. When experimenting with this palette I used the yellow / brown toned colour on the top row as my main transition shade (which worked really well!) and went from there.

Next, I took a light brown colour from the second row to add some depth into my crease. I normally like to go for a bold eye-look which is full of dark colours, and then contrasted with a ‘pop’ of colour in the inner corner of my eye, so this colour was the perfect match for this. To add depth even further (and also because I LOVE red toned eye looks!), I used the seasonal red colour from the third row of the palette.

When I had the main base of my eyeshadow all ready, I used the ultimate black shade at the bottom of the palette. The pigmentation of this is absolutely incredible, and really helps to bring depth into the outer corner of my eye. It also contrasts well with the red and brown colours I used earlier, to give an extra ‘warm’ look.

As always… my eyeshadow looks aren’t complete without a tad bit of shimmer in there. This was one of the hardest choices I made when coming up with this eye look as this palette includes so many exciting shimmers to experiment with. However, I chose the ‘unique’ colour on the 4th row to brighten the eye look a little without distracting from the main crease colours.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with the pigmentation and variety of this palette. The only thing I would point out, however, is that the colours in this palette are similar to those in the original 35O, so maybe opt for the 25B palette if you are looking for something a bit different to existing shadows. Even though I have so many palettes with colours similar to these, I am an absolute sucker for warm toned eye looks and this one did not disappoint. After being on my make-up wish list for so long, I’m glad I finally took the plunge and add some ‘spice’ into my collection.

The Copper Spice palette is now available on ‘Beauty Bay.’ (subject to availability).

The brush pictured is also by Morphe and can be purchased via the ‘Beauty Bay’ website here.

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

My new favourite foundations?

By on February 18, 2017

I have recently been on the hunt for a good drugstore foundation, that was good coverage, bendable, and just overall good value for money. After pondering a lot over which foundation would be best for me, I came across two which I have grown to absolutely love. The two foundations I’ve picked are quite hyped over at the moment- and I know why!

First up is my favourite out of the two (but it was a close call), and it’s the L’Oreal Infallible. This foundation is amazing if you’re looking for a high coverage foundation from the drugstore, which is also reasonably priced. It retails at £9.99 and I definitely prefer it over the L’Oreal ‘True Match’ (I wasn’t a fan of that foundation unfortunately, so this one feels like a breath of fresh air).

I chose the foundation in the shade ‘015 porcelain’ which is perfect for my naturally pale skin tone. Normally I struggle when it comes to finding a good foundation that matches my (extremely) pale face, but I have found that L’Oreal are perfect for that.

Next up is the ‘Bourjois’ Healthy Mix foundation. This is another foundation that a lot of people recommended to me when I asked on Twitter for good foundation recommendations, and it certainly did not disappoint. Although it isn’t as high coverage as my L’Oreal Infallible foundation, it is still pretty good coverage for the price. The foundation normally retails at £9.99, but I got it on a special offer in Superdrug for £7.99. If you’re out and about in Superdrug and you come across this offer, I would defiantly invest. I have never tried any Bourjois products before, so I was pleasantly surprised over the qualify of this foundation.

Out of the two, I thought this would be the one that was either too dark for my skin, or not as good coverage as I had hoped. However, I couldn’t be more wrong. I normally find that some foundations make me look completely white and wash out even the small bit of natural ‘tan’ I have on my face, but this is the best shade that I have found so far to suit my skin tone.

Overall, I am throughly impressed with these two foundations. I have found that they do stay on longer than a lot of my other foundations, blend nicely and have high coverage which is always a bonus. Mixing it in with my ‘Seventeen’ liquid highlighter also adds a ‘dewy’ look to both foundations which is my all time favourite ‘go-to’ for a night out.

Testing 'Technic' make-up

By on February 1, 2017

The lovely people at ‘Technic’ sent me a few products from their new collection before Christmas which I was extremely excited about as I have been intrigued about their new collection for a while now.
I have never really been one for ‘Technic’ make-up to be honest, but the quality of their new products actually surprised me. It’s not the best, but it is certainly workable and I managed to create a very natural, and ‘girly’ look with the products kindly sent to me. A bit out of my comfort zone as I normally prefer warm colours for my eye make-up.

For starters, the eyeshadow palette featured some gorgeous colours. Each colour compliments each other really well and there’s a mixture of matte and shimmer shades which is always a bonus. The only negative thing I would say is that the colours aren’t that pigmented (besides a few exceptions) and so, don’t blend very well together. However, it is workable, and for the price, can definitely still be used.

Now onto the colour corrector palette. I fortunately don’t really struggle with breakouts and spots as much as others, so I didn’t get as much use out of this product to give a whole review on it. However, I used the ‘green-y’ shade to cover up a couple of spots that were lingering on my face, and it did the job.

The highlighter palette is something that I have been longing to use for so long. If anyone knows me, you’ll know that I am a complete sucker for highlighters, and this one was no exception. The highlighter was quite glory, but seemed more pigmented on my finger than how it turned out on my skin. All in all, I don’t think I would choose the highlighter first over some of my other favourites (including my make-up revolution and MUA ones), but I will probably reach for it again on a more ‘natural’ make-up day.

Last but not least, onto the product from this range that I have been most excited to use… the lipstick. The lipstick surprisingly doesn’t have a shade name or number (which is a bit odd), but I would describe it as a plum / pink toned colour. It is definitely my favourite product from what was sent as the colour can work well with a ‘dressy up’ sort of style, or even natural.

This selection of products are perfect for beginners who want to experiment with make-up without spending too much money. The price is extremely affordable, and it definitely does the job!

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

Kylie Jenner lip kit DUPE?

By on January 25, 2017

So I’m back ‘beauty’ blogging again about something I have been super excited about for a while. Unless you have been away from social media for the past few months, you may know that Make-Up Revolution recently launched their highly anticipated ‘Retro Luxe’ lip kits, so I obviously had to give one a try.

It goes without saying, that the Kylie Jenner lip kit hype has really taken the world of social media by storm over the past year- so it seems pretty fitting that Make-Up Revolution would release a few of their own lip kits.

The MUR lip kits come in a variety of shades including, ‘Noble,’ ‘Regal,’ ‘Glory’ and more. I managed to get my hands on Noble which is an orange kind of nude colour. I mainly have pink toned nudes, so when I saw this had a hint of orange in it, I was so excited to give it a try.

I compared the texture to my Kylie Jenner lip kit (which I have in the shade ‘True Brown K’ and found that the quality (obviously) wasn’t as good. It took quite a while to dry on my lops compared to my Kylie one (which could be a positive to some people), and was also quite sticky.

However, with this lip kit retailing at only £6, I was’t surprised that the texture of the liquid lipstick was quite sticky (I could feel it when I was talking), and that the lip liner did’t glide on as well as my Kylie one does. I made sure to apply a layer of lip balm underneath the application, and found that it wasn’t too drying on my lips which is definitely a positive for a matte liquid lipstick.

Nevertheless, for the price and for a Drugstore brand, this lip kit is pretty good quality. It des eventually dry matte which is perfect if you’re wanting to wear your lipstick for a lengthy amount of time (such as a night out), and is an affordable alternative to the Kylie Jenner hype.

The only thing that puts me off buying another one of these lip kits is that none of the other colours really appeal to me, but that is simply down to personal preference. I am so excited to wear this colour on an upcoming night out, and find that it is an essential, and positive, new edition to my already diverse lipstick collection. I love that the colour I chose is unique to any other colour I have seen before, so big up to Make-Up Revolution for that one.

Battle of the lip kits? My Kylie Jenner one is definitely better for all around quality. However, for the price, the Make-Up Revolution ones are an affordable dupe if you’re not wanting to break the bank on postage and custom fees for a Kylie one. I would definitely recommend these lip kits for the price, and I look forward to MUR’s new metallic lip kit range which is rumoured to be dropping soon.

You can also check out a video of me testing both lip kits on my YouTube channel below. Make sure to subscribe and give it a thumbs up!

Have you tried any of the new Make-Up Revolution lip kits, and if so, what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comment box below!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette: Review

By on January 11, 2017

Beauty Bay finally got the ABH Modern Renaissance palette back in stock, and as soon as I saw it advertised I had to leap online and get it. It feels like I have been lusting over this platte forever so I’m having a mini fangirl moment over even having it.

The palette comes with 14 shades- and each really compliment each other. The palette is focused mainly on red / pink tones, but they blend so incredibly well together to give that overall look.

c1dlnmmm

My personal favourite shade has to be ‘Love letters’ (mainly because I don’t have many pink eyeshadows), but each colour is unique to anything I have ever seen before which makes it extra special. The palette retails at around £41, and I bought it from Beauty Bay’s official website here. (It sells out quick though!)

Hd35rSsi.jpg

When I tried out this palette, I found that all the colours where so incredibly creamy which of course is a bonus! There is a bit of fall out, but not a lot.

The only critique I have of this palette is that the brush that comes with it isn’t the best. I tend to stick to my Real Techniques eye brushes as opposed to the one supplied with the platte. However, it’s only a minor issue.

YqlQJKDH.jpg

Honestly, is it worth the money? I have found that there is a lot of overhyped beauty products which are higher end (including the Urban Decay Naked palettes). However, even though this did burn a bit of a hole in my bank account, it is totally worth the money. You can create so many warm looks using this palette so the possibilities really are endless. It is also PERFECT for summer (which my Morphe 35O isn’t really), so it is exactly what I have been looking for, for so long.

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca
