Am I the same blogger?

By on April 26, 2017

For a while now, i have been agitated with my blog, what I blog about and just everything I post and do on here. I feel like every blogger goes through those times where they feel no motivation to post, or hate their theme and desperately need a change but they just don’t know how.

The truth is, I’ve always wanted to be an organic and unique blogger. I’ve always wanted my content to separate itself from everyone else’s in the industry, for the simple fact that it’s a reflection of my thoughts. ‘ItsBeccaJayne’ is called itsbeccajayne, because it’s me. It’s what I think about. It’s what I feel. It’s everything that I need to get out in the open, and people just so happen to stumble across my content and relate to it which is a humbling bonus.

However, itsbeccajayne shares many other aspects of myself which I also want to express on this blog. I like make-up. I like the excitement of buying new products and wanting to tell the world over what beauty ‘must haves’ I’m lusting over. But that doesn’t necessarily make me a beauty blogger. I love fashion, and always have. I love experimenting with styles suited to each season, and telling the world about my favourite outfit of the day. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m a fashion blogger either.

The thing with blogging is that a lot of people feel like they have to fit into ‘one’ blogger category, and for a while, I thought I did too. I was worried that my readers would grow to dislike my blog if I blogged about other stuff I loved, or if diversity isn’t what they wanted. I didn’t want to blog about beauty or fashion, because I felt like I would have to separate myself from a ‘lifestyle blog’ to a beauty or fashion blog.

In reality, I am either all of those, or none of those. The fact of the matter is that it doesn’t really matter. I am me. And that’s what itsbeccajayne is. It’s everything I love, and everything I feel, congregated into one place on the internet. From make-up, to fashion, to mental health, to just general posts about life or whatever goes on in that head of mine. I don’t want to feel constrained on my blog anymore, nor do I want to let any of my readers down.

The question I asked in the title of the post still stands, however. Am I the same blogger I was 6 months ago? Am I the same blogger I was when I first started? Yes, and no. I am the same person, and I still love all the same things- I just never expressed the love for it on my blog back then. I feel as though my blog is growing with my interests. As I become more interested in things, I want to blog about them. I want to express my excitement; but I also want to blog about the same old things I’ve always blogged about. From ranting posts, to thoughts, to educating on mental health and Feminism. I want everything I blog about on here to be a reflection of me. That’s why it’s called itsbeccajayne. Because who I am is everything I blog about on here.

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

All about the corset trend

By on April 15, 2017

I think it’s safe to say that it’s been a good 5 years (exaggeration, but you get my vibe) since I last did my first, and only, fashion post. You can check it out here if you would like. However, I have been obsessing over a current fashion trend at the moment, and I just had to blog about it.

I have been lusting badly over corsets, and even more over how to style them. I recently went into New Look and found the p-e-r-f-e-c-t corset which is affordable, good quality, and a good size. What more can a girl want?

17883996_1438068869584628_2824008532957796571_n

For this look, I put my newly purchased corset over a simple jumper dress from Primark which only cost me £8. It’s extremely comfortable and a great addition to my spring wardrobe. The corset gives the look an extra ‘edge’ rather than just a plain jumper with tights- as well as making me feel extremely confident.

To complete the look, I added an (extremely) oversized denim jacket to give a grunge / hip sort of style. As it was a breezy day, this was perfect as I wasn’t too hot, or too cold. The thing with this time of year is that you can throw a denim jacket on over any outfit and you’re good to go.

Have any of you tried out styling a ‘corset’ yet, and if so, what did you pair it with? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

Corset: Isn’t available anymore on the New Look website, but may still be available in some stores.

Jumper: Primark

Denim jacket: Charity shop

My new favourite foundations?

By on February 18, 2017

I have recently been on the hunt for a good drugstore foundation, that was good coverage, bendable, and just overall good value for money. After pondering a lot over which foundation would be best for me, I came across two which I have grown to absolutely love. The two foundations I’ve picked are quite hyped over at the moment- and I know why!

First up is my favourite out of the two (but it was a close call), and it’s the L’Oreal Infallible. This foundation is amazing if you’re looking for a high coverage foundation from the drugstore, which is also reasonably priced. It retails at £9.99 and I definitely prefer it over the L’Oreal ‘True Match’ (I wasn’t a fan of that foundation unfortunately, so this one feels like a breath of fresh air).

I chose the foundation in the shade ‘015 porcelain’ which is perfect for my naturally pale skin tone. Normally I struggle when it comes to finding a good foundation that matches my (extremely) pale face, but I have found that L’Oreal are perfect for that.

Next up is the ‘Bourjois’ Healthy Mix foundation. This is another foundation that a lot of people recommended to me when I asked on Twitter for good foundation recommendations, and it certainly did not disappoint. Although it isn’t as high coverage as my L’Oreal Infallible foundation, it is still pretty good coverage for the price. The foundation normally retails at £9.99, but I got it on a special offer in Superdrug for £7.99. If you’re out and about in Superdrug and you come across this offer, I would defiantly invest. I have never tried any Bourjois products before, so I was pleasantly surprised over the qualify of this foundation.

Out of the two, I thought this would be the one that was either too dark for my skin, or not as good coverage as I had hoped. However, I couldn’t be more wrong. I normally find that some foundations make me look completely white and wash out even the small bit of natural ‘tan’ I have on my face, but this is the best shade that I have found so far to suit my skin tone.

Overall, I am throughly impressed with these two foundations. I have found that they do stay on longer than a lot of my other foundations, blend nicely and have high coverage which is always a bonus. Mixing it in with my ‘Seventeen’ liquid highlighter also adds a ‘dewy’ look to both foundations which is my all time favourite ‘go-to’ for a night out.

Testing 'Technic' make-up

By on February 1, 2017

The lovely people at ‘Technic’ sent me a few products from their new collection before Christmas which I was extremely excited about as I have been intrigued about their new collection for a while now.
I have never really been one for ‘Technic’ make-up to be honest, but the quality of their new products actually surprised me. It’s not the best, but it is certainly workable and I managed to create a very natural, and ‘girly’ look with the products kindly sent to me. A bit out of my comfort zone as I normally prefer warm colours for my eye make-up.

For starters, the eyeshadow palette featured some gorgeous colours. Each colour compliments each other really well and there’s a mixture of matte and shimmer shades which is always a bonus. The only negative thing I would say is that the colours aren’t that pigmented (besides a few exceptions) and so, don’t blend very well together. However, it is workable, and for the price, can definitely still be used.

Now onto the colour corrector palette. I fortunately don’t really struggle with breakouts and spots as much as others, so I didn’t get as much use out of this product to give a whole review on it. However, I used the ‘green-y’ shade to cover up a couple of spots that were lingering on my face, and it did the job.

The highlighter palette is something that I have been longing to use for so long. If anyone knows me, you’ll know that I am a complete sucker for highlighters, and this one was no exception. The highlighter was quite glory, but seemed more pigmented on my finger than how it turned out on my skin. All in all, I don’t think I would choose the highlighter first over some of my other favourites (including my make-up revolution and MUA ones), but I will probably reach for it again on a more ‘natural’ make-up day.

Last but not least, onto the product from this range that I have been most excited to use… the lipstick. The lipstick surprisingly doesn’t have a shade name or number (which is a bit odd), but I would describe it as a plum / pink toned colour. It is definitely my favourite product from what was sent as the colour can work well with a ‘dressy up’ sort of style, or even natural.

This selection of products are perfect for beginners who want to experiment with make-up without spending too much money. The price is extremely affordable, and it definitely does the job!

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

Kylie Jenner lip kit DUPE?

By on January 25, 2017

So I’m back ‘beauty’ blogging again about something I have been super excited about for a while. Unless you have been away from social media for the past few months, you may know that Make-Up Revolution recently launched their highly anticipated ‘Retro Luxe’ lip kits, so I obviously had to give one a try.

It goes without saying, that the Kylie Jenner lip kit hype has really taken the world of social media by storm over the past year- so it seems pretty fitting that Make-Up Revolution would release a few of their own lip kits.

The MUR lip kits come in a variety of shades including, ‘Noble,’ ‘Regal,’ ‘Glory’ and more. I managed to get my hands on Noble which is an orange kind of nude colour. I mainly have pink toned nudes, so when I saw this had a hint of orange in it, I was so excited to give it a try.

I compared the texture to my Kylie Jenner lip kit (which I have in the shade ‘True Brown K’ and found that the quality (obviously) wasn’t as good. It took quite a while to dry on my lops compared to my Kylie one (which could be a positive to some people), and was also quite sticky.

However, with this lip kit retailing at only £6, I was’t surprised that the texture of the liquid lipstick was quite sticky (I could feel it when I was talking), and that the lip liner did’t glide on as well as my Kylie one does. I made sure to apply a layer of lip balm underneath the application, and found that it wasn’t too drying on my lips which is definitely a positive for a matte liquid lipstick.

Nevertheless, for the price and for a Drugstore brand, this lip kit is pretty good quality. It des eventually dry matte which is perfect if you’re wanting to wear your lipstick for a lengthy amount of time (such as a night out), and is an affordable alternative to the Kylie Jenner hype.

The only thing that puts me off buying another one of these lip kits is that none of the other colours really appeal to me, but that is simply down to personal preference. I am so excited to wear this colour on an upcoming night out, and find that it is an essential, and positive, new edition to my already diverse lipstick collection. I love that the colour I chose is unique to any other colour I have seen before, so big up to Make-Up Revolution for that one.

Battle of the lip kits? My Kylie Jenner one is definitely better for all around quality. However, for the price, the Make-Up Revolution ones are an affordable dupe if you’re not wanting to break the bank on postage and custom fees for a Kylie one. I would definitely recommend these lip kits for the price, and I look forward to MUR’s new metallic lip kit range which is rumoured to be dropping soon.

You can also check out a video of me testing both lip kits on my YouTube channel below. Make sure to subscribe and give it a thumbs up!

Have you tried any of the new Make-Up Revolution lip kits, and if so, what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comment box below!
