Vans ‘Old Skool’ trainers Primark dupe: What’s the difference?

August 16, 2017

Whilst on my annual pay day Primark shop, I came across a familiar dupe to one of my most loved pairs of shoes. It’s clear that the ‘Old Skool’ Vans trend is everywhere at the moment, so of course it was only a matter of time before Primark created their own alternative, which may I add, is also a whopping £47 cheaper!

So, is the Primark dupe really a dupe? I compared similarities and differences between each shoe… and here is what I found. One of the first differences between the two that I found is in the soles. Whereas the genuine Vans have an orange sole as shown below, the Primark alternative has a darker colour which isn’t as high quality. But hey, what where you expecting in an £8 dupe? Nevertheless, the Primark dupe does share the same chunky white sole as the real Vans, so there isn’t much difference there.

And now onto the ‘signature’ stripe which is arguably, one of the main features of the ‘Old Skool’ Vans. This is also the biggest factor that stood out to me when noticing that these Primark shoes really were dupes. Although there isn’t much of a difference at first glance, when you look closely you can definitely see two different stripes on each shoe. For example, the genuine ‘Old Skool’ Vans have more of a angled line, where as the Primark dupe is styled with more of a curved line. You can see the difference between the two below:

The next difference is minor, yet still something that is vaguely noticeable. In case you haven’t noticed it yet, the Primark dupe has thicker laces; whereas the real Vans have thinner white laces. However, both of the laces are interchangeable so it’s not a huge deal and is definitely one of the smaller differences.

The final difference is also a given, but still a difference at that. Obviously, the back of the Vans trainer has the official Vans trademark logo, whereas the Primark alternative doesn’t have anything. The stitching however, is pretty much similar with white thread contrasting with the dark material to make the shoe stand out. Regardless, the stitching isn’t as high quality on the Primark shoe… but what do you expect from a £8 product?

Honestly, when wearing the shoes I would say they are as comfortable as each other. When trying on the Primark pair, they felt just like my genuine Vans- you would never know the difference if you were blindfolded! If you don’t want to fork out £55 for the original Vans, then the Primark dupe is definitely a must from me. They’re affordable, comfy, and honestly; look a lot like the original pair. You wouldn’t really know the difference unless you really examined the shoes together. On the other hand, it does seem like the genuine Vans would last longer from the sole comparison as they are better quality. But hey, Primark strikes again with the affordable dupes- and this one is a yay from me.

Have you tried the Old Skool dupe from Primark, and if so, what are your thoughts? Make sure to let me know in the comment box below!

Love and happiness always,

xo, Becca

  1. This is so interesting as I really want these vans! I already have a dark blue pair and I think just because me already having them I would go for the vans. But I love the whole idea of the Primark dupe! ❤x

  2. Hey there! I’ve been reading your website for some time now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from Huffman Tx! Just wanted to mention keep up the fantastic work!

  3. In my experience, walking on Primark flats always feels as if you’re just walking on the ground – do these have that too? Because apart from that, seems like a do-able dupe, you know? 🙂

  4. While I agree with the basics in – Gulvafslibning | Kurt Gulvmand , I think the buoyant sentiment around today is a concequence of a false set of circumstances. The demand for consumer loans is still weak and there is no significant improvement in the housing market. The developed nations are surviving on their governments ability to just borrow and spend into their economies which is difficult to maintain. Regards, Estela Camp.
